After being credited by many as helping to bring the ‘boy-band’ phenomenon back to popular music, there was no denying that the group One Direction was one that would be making a major impact on today’s music scene. The successful British-Irish boy band first hit the music scene after appearing on the hit television show The X Factor. Although the band did not win the competition and ended up placing third on the show, their exposure was insurmountable. The band, which is comprised of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louise Tomlinson, proved they had the same something special that produced fan pandemonium similar to bands such as the Beatles, N’SYNC and Backstreet Boys, and showed that their talent, lyrics and style was able to capture the hearts of female fans across the globe. The group quickly developed a massive following from television audiences and were quickly signed to Syco Records; a record label owned by The X Factor show creator; Simon Cowell. After getting their start with Syco Records, and breaking into the music scene the group was signed to North American mega house Columbia Records and started to have what would prove to be a truly unmatchable impact on today’s music industry. In 2011 the band released their debut album called Up All Night. The album which featured a compilation of different pop songs showing the unique vocals of each member of the group, premiered at the number two spot on the UK Albums Chart and the number one spot of the US Billboard Charts. This debut earned the band the record of being the first UK band in history to ever debut on a US chart at the top spot with their first album. On this hit debut album was the group’s smash hit, “What Makes You Beautiful,” a high energy pop song that quickly reached the top spot in several countries. With the hit being played across radio stations across the globe and with several awards and sales records to their name, the band announced in 2012 that they would be embarking on their first tour. The 2012 tour would be deemed the Up All Night Tour and quickly after this tour proved to have momentous success before it even ended, the group announced they would be going out on a 2012 World Tour as well; bringing their talents fans across the globe.
